Brown: 'Oprah' Domestic Abuse Show A Slap In Face
Pop Singer Chris Brown Criticizes Oprah Winfrey Over Domestic Violence Show
(CBS) LOS ANGELES - Chris Brown doesn't appreciate Oprah Winfrey's response to him beating up on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, especially after all the "stuff" he's done for the media mogul.

The 20-year-old recording artist told People magazine in the latest issue that he doesn't think the domestic violence coverage aired on "Oprah" on March 12 was very helpful. Winfrey dedicated the show to "all the Rihannas of the world."

According to celebrity Web site TMZ, this was Brown's response when asked about his feelings toward the special episode: "I commend Oprah on being like, 'This is a problem,' but it was a slap in my face. I did a lot of stuff for her, like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been more helpful, like, 'Okay, I'm going to help both of these people out.'"

A representative for Winfrey told TMZ in response: "Oprah is very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school, but she takes domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes he gets the counseling he needs."

In a story on her Web site related to the case, Winfrey calls it a "teaching moment."

Brown spoke publicly about the case for the first time on Wednesday to CNN's Larry King. Brown told King his feelings for Rihanna haven't changed since the February beating that left the singer bloody and bruised.

Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in June and last week was sentenced to five years of probation, a year of domestic violence counseling and six months of community labor. He will serve his sentence in his home state of Virginia.

A judge also ordered Brown, 20, and Rihanna, 21, to stay away from each other.

A police affidavit and probation report detail the beating, which included Brown hitting, biting and choking Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. The attack occurred in a car after the couple attended a pre-Grammy Awards party.

Brown released a video statement last month in which he apologized to fans and said he had repeatedly apologized to Rihanna for the attack.
